"The 1549-m-high Sempu stratovolcano was constructed within the 3-km-wide Sempu caldera. Kawah Masem maar was formed in the SW part of the caldera and contains a crater lake. No historical eruptions are known from Sempu. Sulfur has been extracted from fumarolic areas in the maar since 1938."  -Smithsonian Volcano Archive
