"A ship captain reported water ebullition and hot fumes at this location in 1856. This event, which occurred about 170 km NE of the island of Terceira in the Azores, is considered questionable unless it occurred in shallower water to the west (Catalog of Active Volcanoes of the World)."  -Smithsonian Volcano Archive
